The work
Your car already has the features. Coding switches them on.
Most of what people pay to add is already in the car — BMW ships one set of modules and enables options per market and per spec sheet. Coding turns on what yours left the factory without.
The other half of the job is the coding a retrofit needs: a module that has been fitted but never registered will throw faults and sit dead until the car is told it is there. Every change is written down and every one is reversible.

What is BMW coding?
BMW coding changes selected software settings within the vehicle's existing control modules. It can activate, deactivate or customise supported vehicle functions.
Coding cannot create a hardware-dependent feature if the required hardware is not installed.
What coding functions are available?
Available functions depend on the BMW model, software version, control modules and vehicle specification. A compatibility check is required before coding.
Is coding permanent?
Some coding settings remain active unless they are manually changed. However, dealership software updates, module replacement, battery-related issues or vehicle programming may reset certain coded functions.
Can coding cause warning lights?
Coding should only be carried out after checking the vehicle's condition and compatible control modules. Existing vehicle faults, low battery voltage or incompatible software may affect the process.
Any pre-existing fault should be diagnosed before coding.
Can coding be returned to the original settings?
Most coding changes can be returned to the original configuration, subject to the condition and software version of the vehicle.
